He’s your not-so-typical tradie from Margaret River, Western Australia. And he uses POP to max his tax back
Tell us about your work, Mick.
“I’m a second-year builder’s apprentice. I work all week, but I also help my uncle out with his landscaping business on the weekends when he needs me. Any spare time I have I’m either in the surf or playing bass in a band with some of my old school mates.”
Come tax-time, what used to go through your brain?
“Ah, man… tax-time used to do my head in. I’d sometimes jokes there’s a reason I work with my hands and not numbers, but really it was about finding the time for me. By the time I got around to lodging my return, I was never sure what I could and couldn’t claim. Every year, it was just a hassle.”
But not since you started using POP to file your tax return?
“Nah, POP’s awesome. I kid you not, I knocked out my tax return this year all by myself during smoko. It was fast and easy as.
How did POP’s intuitive Max-Deductibles system work for you as a tradie?
Well, the best part was it already knew exactly what deductibles I qualified for as a builder’s apprentice – it walked me through every single deduction in total detail, and also what the benchmarks in my industry were for each. POP not only earned me more tax back, but it ended up saving me a few hundred bucks after I gave my old shark of an accountant the flick.”
Would you recommend POP to other tradies?
“Damn straight. I got my best tax return ever. All my workmates were wondering how I wrangled it. I told them I have a creative accountant, ha ha! I mean, I had to put a chunk of the tax I got back towards my ute rego, but still, it came in pretty handy.”
